Port of Emden in dialog with maritime coordinator
Port promotion invites Ploß to Emden
Emden's port representative Reinhard Hegewald has invited the German government's new coordinator for the maritime economy and tourism, Dr. Christoph Ploß from Hamburg, to the port of Emden. During a discussion between the two on the fringes of a parliamentary evening at the Lower Saxony state representation in Berlin, Hegewald emphasized the importance of the seaport of Emden with its three strong pillars in the handling of vehicles, forestry products and components for the wind power industry. As far as the federal government's greater involvement in the expansion of infrastructure in the ports is concerned, he found Ploß' ears receptive. “In Christoph Ploß, we have a maritime coordinator who is ”on fire“ for the ports in Germany and who wants to make a difference for them,” said a delighted Hegewald. Ploß emphasized that northern Germany must speak with one voice in Berlin in order to be heard. He also suggested making it clear to the southern federal states that they also needed the ports for their imports and exports. The special evaluation of the 2040 maritime traffic forecast by IHK-Nord e.V. is particularly suitable for this purpose. It shows the extent to which each district in Germany is dependent on well-developed ports on the coast. Ploß promised to visit the port of Emden this summer.
