When Port Logistics Become Global Communications
Successful submarine cable handling in Cuxhaven highlights the growing importance of the offshore hub and the expansion of BREB Port & Offshore Services. The project demonstrates how specialized port logistics make a decisive contribution to offshore projects, regional economic growth, and the international competitiveness of the Port of Cuxhaven.
Cuxhaven, July 7, 2026 – The expansion of offshore infrastructure presents ports with new challenges while simultaneously creating significant opportunities. As one of Germany's leading offshore ports, Cuxhaven is increasingly evolving into a key hub for submarine cables, offshore components, and complex project logistics. With the successful handling of a submarine telecommunications cable at the Blue Water BREB Terminal, BREB GmbH & Co. KG has once again demonstrated its expertise as a reliable partner for port and offshore logistics while making an important contribution to strengthening Cuxhaven as both an economic and offshore center.
On behalf of the international company Dani Shipping, BREB coordinated the handling and respooling of a telecommunications submarine cable from the coastal cargo vessel M/V ALMA to the cable-laying vessel C/L TERILI. Operations of this kind require the highest level of precision, detailed planning, and close coordination between all companies and authorities involved. Time windows, safety requirements, and technical procedures must be perfectly aligned to ensure successful execution.
BREB GmbH & Co. KG was responsible for operational port coordination, full shipping agency services for both vessels, and the provision of qualified personnel together with the necessary technical equipment. Thanks to the close cooperation of all project partners, the complex cable transfer was completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
For BREB, this project also represents the continued expansion of its dedicated BREB Port & Offshore Services business division. The company supports national and international clients in demanding port, offshore, and infrastructure projects, serving as a trusted link between shipping companies, the port industry, authorities, terminal operators, and project developers.
Its range of services includes port and project coordination, offshore logistics management, shipping agency services, port operations, heavy-lift and specialized transport, storage and cargo handling, crew and personnel changes, as well as support with permits and regulatory procedures. These services are built on extensive maritime expertise, short decision-making processes, and a strong network of regional and international partners.
"The successful cable handling operation in Cuxhaven demonstrates how essential experienced teams, maritime expertise, and a reliable network are for offshore projects. Through BREB Port & Offshore Services, we connect port logistics with successful project execution—fully reflecting our commitment to From Port to Project. At the same time, projects like this play an important role in further strengthening the Port of Cuxhaven as a leading center for offshore, energy, and infrastructure projects," says Andreas Krause, Head of BREB Port & Offshore Services.
Project Strengthens Regional Value Creation
The successful cable handling operation is a prime example of the dynamic development of the Port of Cuxhaven. Today, submarine fiber-optic cables carry approximately 99% of global international internet traffic. Forecasts indicate that the total length of these cables is expected to double by 2040. As these underwater data highways continue to expand, Cuxhaven's importance as a logistics hub for offshore projects of every kind continues to grow.
Projects like this create far more than modern infrastructure. They safeguard jobs, strengthen regional businesses and service providers, and enhance Cuxhaven's attractiveness for both national and international investment. Every successfully completed project contributes to expanding regional maritime value creation and securing the long-term competitiveness of the port.
This development benefits not only international clients but also port operators, logistics providers, skilled trades, and numerous companies throughout the entire maritime supply and value chain. In doing so, Cuxhaven continues to strengthen its position as one of the leading offshore ports in Germany and Europe.
BREB Invests in the Future of Offshore Logistics
For BREB, the successful cable handling operation marks another milestone in the expansion of BREB Port & Offshore Services. As the number of offshore wind, submarine cable, and maritime infrastructure projects in the North Sea continues to increase, so does the demand for experienced maritime logistics providers capable of coordinating complex project operations safely, efficiently, and with maximum flexibility.
BREB is therefore making targeted investments in expanding its expertise in port and offshore logistics and positions itself as a long-term partner for the maritime energy and infrastructure sectors.
"We see tremendous potential for Cuxhaven. Whether it is energy generation or global data transmission, success depends on what happens at sea and in offshore projects of every kind. Our goal is to continuously develop BREB Port & Offshore Services as a trusted partner for these future-oriented projects. At the same time, together with our clients, partners, and local stakeholders, we want to help strengthen the value creation, innovative capacity, and international competitiveness of the Port of Cuxhaven over the long term," Krause explains.
With its maritime expertise, efficient decision-making processes, and strong regional network, BREB has become an important partner for the successful execution of complex port, offshore, and infrastructure projects. Guided by the principle From Port to Project, the company combines operational port logistics with comprehensive project management while actively contributing to the sustainable development of Cuxhaven as a leading offshore hub.
